Viper Fang 24 Battery Changed for Leek Retailer
The manager of a large multi-retail discount store contacted us to report an issue they were having with their Viper Fang 24 Battery which wasn't charging. The store was located in Leek, Staffordshire which is a relatively small town but thrives from tourism due to its access to the Peak District National Park. As such, its local retail industry is quite well established.
The store has to keep up appearances, not only for the sake of their own internal standards but to keep the store looking good for customers as well. Being a multi-retail store, the footfall attracts a high level or regular customers who drag in dirt and more recently snow across the floor. To keep on top of this, the company owned a Viper Fang 24 Battery Operated Scrubber Drier, which we had been regularly serviced by ourselves since it was purchased five years ago.
Upon arrival, our engineer inspected the machine and ran some tests on the electrical system. Being five years old he was surprised to find that the batteries had done really well for their age however the charging unit was clogged with dirt and the casing was cracked. These machines are very solid but do get a lot of use where damage of this nature can occur. Both the batteries and the charging unit were replaced with spares and then the machine was fully tested to ensure it was performing at its optimum once again before being returned into service.
The Viper Fang range of floor cleaning scrubber dryers utilise a number of motors to drive the machine forward, operate the brushes and power the water pumps and vacuum. The electrical demand is met by its two 12 volt 20 amp hour batteries which are easily accessed via the top section of the machine.
Batteries can either be wet Lead Acid or Gel, however if wet batteries are used then electrolyte level checks should be included in the regular maintenance checks and topped up distilled water as required.
Please note you should not mix Lead Acid and Wet Batteries together in the same machine as the charger has different settings for both.

However, before departing, our engineer checked with the office to retrieve the detailed service history of the machine.
