Dead Cleaning Machine Resuscitated at a Department Store in Braintree
We recently received a call from a customer at a department store in Essex who reports that their Viper Fang floor cleaning machine had “died”. A3 Machines have a reputation for being the emergency service for UK’s cleaning machines as we can usually resolve any problem regardless of make or model. The department store was situated in Braintree which is a busy London commuter town and an important retail centre for the local community. Braintree in fact has two major retail areas which include George Yard in the town centre and “Braintree Freeport” which is modern shopping village on the outskirts of town.
When he arrived and to his surprise, our engineer found that the staff were not exaggerating – after a full post-mortem diagnostic inspection, he could conclude that the machine was indeed “dead”! Not to be defeated, our engineer took it upon himself to try and resurrect it and put all his skills to work to resuscitate the machine. It turns out the machine was four years old had never been serviced in its lifespan; given the amount of use these machines experience it’s a testament to the Viper build quality that it had managed to last this long.
Firstly, he replaced the pair of 12v batteries with a fully charged set, then, as no water was being released from the solution tank, he replaced the solenoid valve and the filter from stock he carried on his service vehicle. He then thoroughly descaled the tank and replaced the badly worn suction rubbers. He then tested it and found that although it was now operational again it was very difficult to move. This was likely down to the axle bearings that balance the machine which he suspected had collapsed. He replaced these, again from stock he had brought with him, and after being tested again, the once dead cleaning machine was back to life and working like new.
Before leaving, the cleaning staff were given advice on weekly maintenance and the importance of having a regular service. Our engineer also carried out a PAT test on the machine whilst on-site.
It’s worth a noting that the Viper range of cleaning machines are very popular in the UK due to their reliability and robust design. However, like any machine it does suffer from wear and we often find many issues are down to mishandling and a lack of regular servicing. Unsurprisingly A3 Machines alone service and repair in excess of 800 Viper scrubber dryers every year.

Assessing the Dead Cleaning Machine
We sent an engineer down to the department store in Braintree to evaluate the dead cleaning machine and if possible bring it back to life. Like any business department store it needs to maintain appearances in the face of heavy customer footfall and to keep the store in line with company standards, the cleaning staff used a Viper Fang 24 battery-powered pedestrian scrubber drier. When he arrived and to his surprise, our engineer found that the staff were not exaggerating – after a full post-mortem diagnostic inspection, he could conclude that the machine was indeed “dead”! Viper Fang 24 Battery Powered Pedestrian Scrubber Dryer
The Viper 24 scrubber-dryer is a robust machine. Measuring 141 x 66 x 100cm, it is housed in moulded plastic, but its size means that it is durable whilst also being manoeuvrable. It is protected by front and rear collision protection and an impact-proof cover. It works in virtue of two tanks, one of which releases clean water and chemicals. The brushes then scrub the floor and the dirty water is sucked up as the machine moves over it, depositing the dirty water in the second tank. This makes it very simple to dispose of the dirty water, and the 66-litre tank means the user can spend less time emptying and more time cleaning. It’s worth a noting that the Viper range of cleaning machines are very popular in the UK due to their reliability and robust design.
