Servicing a Viper Fang 24T at a Retail Store in Cambridge

A large retail store had contacted us concerning their floor cleaning machine, which was malfunctioning and due a service. The store is located in the centre of Cambridge which is famous for its University and a very popular location for tourists resulting in the store being one of the busiest in the chain. An engineer was called out to inspect and service the machine making any repairs as necessary, carry out testing to ensure the machine was performing adequately again, and give advice to the cleaning staff at the store about regular maintenance.

Assessing the Floor Cleaning Machine

An engineer was sent to the retail store in Cambridge to inspect the machine and isolate the source of the problem. As a large store in the city, it had a vast area of tiled flooring, which, as a result of regular customer foot fall and trolley traffic, needs consistent cleaning to meet store and hygiene standards. Thus, it was very important for the engineer to assess the machine and remedy the issue quickly. The customer had reported that the machine was cutting out and making an “unusual sound”. The machine was a Viper Fang 24 Pedestrian Scrubber Dryer which is known for being a robust and reliable machine. After inspecting the machine, the engineer concluded that the source of the problem was the circuit breaker. A bad connection was causing excess heat build-up which resulted in the machine cut outs. On top of this, four bolts had seized up after continued usage and, subject to wear and tear; the suction bar was also well worn. The engineer also noted that the axle was becoming worn but was still serviceable.
The circuit breaker was replaced, as were the four worn bolts. The machine was then tested and given a full service, which involved spray greasing the castors and the drive train and descaling the water tank. This would ensure that the machine recovered dirty water as it was supposed to and perform at its optimum level.

The Viper 24 features a 66-litre tank and is a robust machine measuring 141 x 66 x 100cm. It is protected by front and rear collision protection and an impact-proof cover. It works in virtue of two tanks, one of which releases clean water and chemicals. The brushes then scrub the floor and the dirty water is sucked up as the machine moves over it, depositing the dirty water in the second tank. This makes it very simple to dispose of the dirty water. The customer was satisfied with the results and the machine is once again running at its peak. Aside from repairing the machine, the engineer offered in depth advice about the future maintenance of the machine, demonstrating the most effective way to descale the water tanks and highlighting the importance of regularly greasing the bolts. Advice on preventative maintenance and proper care of the machines is something that is always offered to customers.
