Nuneaton Fashion Retailer Reports Viper Fang 24T Loss of Vacuum

On this occasion, a call came through to our service line from a fashion retailer who reported that their floor cleaning machine had a loss of vacuum pressure and was not recovering dirty water. This meant that the dirty waste water was being left in puddles on the floor during operation which was clearly not ideal. The store was located in Nuneaton, Warwickshire which was once home to textile and manufacturing industries however these days it’s largely a commuter town for nearby Coventry and Birmingham and so has developed numerous shopping facilities such as the Abbeygate and Ropewalk shopping centres to service the local demand.

Diagnosing the Loss of Vacuum

One of our engineers was dispatched to the Nuneaton fashion retailer to investigate why the floor cleaning machine was not recovering the waste left behind by the cleaning process. The machine was a Viper Fang 24T Pedestrian Scrubber Dryer which is a popular machine with out customers and one with which we have a lot of experience. Naturally as a retailer for fashion the customer was very concerned about maintaining the hygiene standards at the store primarily to ensure the store was welcoming and presentable for customers but also because they were worried about clothes coming into contact with a dirty floor. Therefore, the floors had to be kept clean at all times.

The machine had been taken out of operation and on arrival our engineer started stripping the machine down, so he could give it a thorough inspection and resolve the loss of vacuum issue. The engineer found that the vacuum motor brushes were failing, which was causing sparks and resulting in the slow spinning of the rotor. This was likely the result of a malfunctioning motor, so, our engineer went about the process of replacing the three-stage vacuum motor. This needed to be run at the correct speed to avoid further damage, so the engineer ensured that this was done. He then descaled the suction bar to improve the movement of water back to the recovery tank, as scale builds up in these areas after continued usage.

Whilst on site our engineer noted that the Viper Fang 24T was soon due for an electrical test so before leaving he also carried out a PAT Test to ensure it was in compliance. After repairing and re-assembling the machine it was then tested to ensure the loss of suction issue was resolved and to check for any other faults before signing the machine off. The last thing we want is to be called back to the same site after making a repair so this is a very important procedure for us. As expected the machine passed the tests and the engineer was happy that the machine was in full working order again allowing it to be returned to service.

With the loss of vacuum problem resolved and the machine back in service the customers cleaning staff would be glad to see the machine back in use as it’s as it makes light work of floor cleaning.

Viper Fang 24 Battery Powered Pedestrian Scrubber Dryer

The Viper 24 scrubber-dryer is a robust machine. Measuring 141 x 66 x 100cm, it is housed in moulded plastic, but its size means that it is durable whilst also being manoeuvrable. It is protected by front and rear collision protection and an impact-proof cover. It works in virtue of two tanks, one of which releases clean water and chemicals. The brushes then scrub the floor and the dirty water is sucked up as the machine moves over it, depositing the dirty water in the second tank. This makes it very simple to dispose of the dirty water, and the 66-litre tank means the user can spend less time emptying and more time cleaning.
