Resolving a Suction Issue on a Viper Fang 20HD for a Grimsby Retailer

It’s always worth checking over your machine before requesting a call out as this can save you time and money. This was the case recently at a retail store in Grimsby, Lincolnshire where we were asked to attend in order to resolve a suction issue with their floor cleaning machine. Grimsby is a large port town on the North Sea coast known for its trade – a place where retailers can fit right in!

Assessing the Cleaning Machine

We sent one of our engineers on his way to the retail store in Grimsby, Lincolnshire to see what he could find out about the condition of the machine and if possible repair it on-site. The customer had reported to us that the machine, a Viper Fang 20HD Pedestrian Scrubber Drier was generating zero suction when being used. This meant that the daily clean to keep on top of dirt and scuffing could not take place as the machine would simply leave the dirty water on the floor and not extract it back into the recovery tank on the machine.

Upon inspection of the machine, our engineer found the root cause of the problem to be a very simple one – the suction issue was due to the hose not being securely connected from the suction rubber at the rear of the machine, so the vacuum pump was basically sucking air into the recovery tank. It transpired that a member of staff had pulled the hose out previously (probably to suck up a pool of liquid) and not put it back properly, breaking the seal which resulted in the complete lack of suction from the floor. A quick re-connection was all that was needed to resolve the suction issue and get the machine back in full working order. This reiterates the earlier point – sometimes all that is needed is a thorough check of the machine to avoid a call out from one of our engineers.

Here at A3 Machines, we are kept very busy across the UK with a whole variety of different tasks, from repairs and servicing to training and demonstration. One thing we see a lot of though are callouts to resolve issues which could have been avoided by following the prescribed preventative maintenance procedures and operational training. This was certainly the case here, where a simple mistake through improper use of the machine resulted in a suction issue which was easily rectified.

Viper Fang 20HD Scrubber Dryer

With the ability to clean up to 2,000 m2 per hour and a manoeuvrable chassis the Viper Fang 20HD Scrubber Dryer strikes a fine balance between performance and durability. The machine is classed by Viper Cleaning as the Medium sized “Heavy Duty” model in the Viper Fang range, the number 20 actually relates to the 51cm cleaning width of the machine, i.e. 20 inches.

The machine comes with an extra set of squeegees on board, ensuring the user can regularly change and clean parts when needed. There is also an on-board charger for the battery. The vacuum motor is two-stage, meaning the pressure applied by the vacuum can be altered for different surfaces if needed. The brush is powered by a 560w motor whilst the vacuum is also powerful, controlled by a 400w motor. The cleaning solution and recovery tanks can each hold 61ltrs of liquid allowing the machine to be used longer before it needs to be emptied.
