White Spirit Leads to Scrubber Dryer Breakdown at Leek Retailer
The following engineers report shows how the inappropriate use of white spirit resulted in the breakdown of a Viper Fang scrubber dryer and highlights how so many problems we encounter are down to user error. It started with a call to our head office from one of our regular customers to report an issue they were having with their recently serviced Viper Fang floor cleaning machine. The customer was based at a large retail store in Leek, Staffordshire, where the unspoilt town centre provides multiple retail opportunities for businesses and customers alike.
Our engineer arrived and carried out his inspections, carefully testing the machine to isolate the source of the problem. The customer had reported to us that no water was coming out of the Viper 24 and the cause of this became immediately apparent to our engineer when he lifted the lid off the water tank. He could smell white spirit! This may not seem, on the face of it, to be such an issue, but white spirit corrodes the mechanisms of the solenoid valve, which is what had happened in this case. The damage to the solenoid was irreparable. It turned out the white spirit had been put in the machine by a new member of staff, who had not been trained properly on how to use or maintain it.
Luckily, the fix was a relatively simple one, and all that needed to be done was to replace the damaged solenoid with a new one, from stock our engineer carries with him on the van. The fix could be made on-site and there was no need to leave with the machine. Once again, this highlights the importance of training and A3 Machines always give, free of charge, full on-site training upon the delivery of a machine. We can also train an allocated trainer so that training is ongoing should a staff member leave.
The machine is particularly well suited to heavily shopped or treaded areas of flooring, which explains its popularity with retailers across the country and beyond.

Viper Fang 24 Battery Powered Pedestrian Scrubber Dryer
The Viper 24 scrubber-dryer is a robust machine. Measuring 141 x 66 x 100cm, it is housed in moulded plastic but its size means that it is durable whilst also being manoeuvrable. It is protected by front and rear collision protection and an impact-proof cover. It works in virtue of two tanks, one of which releases clean water and chemicals. The brushes then scrub the floor and the dirty water is sucked up as the machine moves over it, depositing the dirty water in the second tank.
